CHRISTOPHE GAYRAL. Biography

Stage director - 

​

He studied as an actor at the « Ecole Nationale de la Rue Blanche » in Paris, and worked as an actor  for many years with many French directors including: Yannis Kokkos, Hans Peter Cloos, Catherine Anne, Stuart Seide, Brigitte Jaques, Pierre Tabard, Laurent Gutmann, Pierre Santini, Stanislas Nordey,...

Christophe Gayral co-wrote Le Grand Carrousel , an equestrian opera, for the city of Brussels. He wrote and directed Jai mata di ,  an Indo-French co-production which toured India. For the Alden Biesen Festival in Belgium he has directed Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor ( Nicolaï) and the world premiere of La Fable de Ooh et Aah (Wise),

He has worked regularly on training young opera singers, particularly in Belgium, directing them in l' Enfant et les Sortilèges (Poulenc), The Telephone (Menotti) and La Serva Padrona (Pergolese).

In 2010 Christophe Gayral directed Il Matrimonio segreto  (Cimarosa) for the Opéra du Rhin and his production was revived in Rennes in 2011 and 2015 again in Strasbourg.

He has directed Owen Wingrave (Britten) in 2013, the show was revived in Besançon in 2014.

He staged a new production of Mozart’s Idomeneo for Strasbourg Opera in 2016. In 2019, Cosi fan tutte for St Etienne Opera. This production has been revived in 2023 in Toulon.

He is invited to stage a new production of Traviata in September 2020.

He will do also a new production of Vivaldi Farnace for la Fenice in 2021 and Haendel Radamisto for San Francisco Philharmonia Baroque Orchesta in 2022. Torre del Lago Puccini Festival invites Christophe Gayral for a new production of La Bohème for July 2023.

In the meantime he's working on a documentury for T.V on Roger Anger, a french utopist architect.

He has also worked with Philippe Sireuil: La Favorite (Zurich), Cosi fan tutte (Liège, Rouen, Avignon) ; Pelléas et Mélisande (Liège); Le Nozze di Figaro (Monaco, Liège); Rigoletto (Liège).

He has assisted Muriel Téodori on the world premiere of Welcome to the Voice for Théâtre du Châtelet with Sting and Elvis Costello, and Chen Shi Zheng on Nixon in China (Châtelet).
